He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart. – Ecclesiastes 3:11 (AMP)

We hunger for something more.

No matter where we’ve grown up, where we live, or what we have learned about life, death, and eternity — we all want to know what the point is. Why do we exist? What is our purpose in this world? Can we make sense out of what we see and feel, what we hope for and what we know to be true?

Our hearts long for perfection — every sunset, work of art, and moment of beauty speaks to us even as we bear the tension of lost love, broken relationships, and unfinished work. Our lives plod forward as our souls seek an existence unfettered by the mundane. We know and believe intrinsically that we were made for something more. Music speaks to us, and we feel its pull: timeless, beyond comprehension — it moves us. Art does the same. Literature and cinema remind us of deeper stories. It is the profound and authoritative power of beauty and truth. They play off each other like strings reverberating the unseen within us. Their sound and motion make us feel alive, make us aware that there is more to life than what we can see or understand.

The wind blows where it wishes, and no one questions it. As an unseen friend always with us — pointing beyond and beckoning us to trust its force. Though not understood or fully realized, we appreciate its constancy. We were children once, and we marveled at these things, but we have grown up. To the rare heart that still wonders, there is a life of freedom awaiting. Ask a question; the wind dares you.

Our lives are determined by the questions we ask.

Explore. Ask the hard questions. Browse. Begin finding answers. You may find a new way of seeing and believing. God is real, and we believe that He is good. The battle between good and evil ensues. Hope and loss are real — pain and pleasure, suffering and glory. So we look to God’s Word for guidance, believing that the Bible is true and that we will find the truth when we search for it. His Word is our story, and it is the basis for understanding reality and our place in this world. It gives context and courage for the journey in which we find ourselves.

While we can’t know everything, we can be certain that God is our Creator and Father and that He has made us for a purpose. We can know what that purpose is and how we can be more deeply informed, involved, and engaged. We can have a relationship with our Creator, and we can explore His mind and heart through the Word and prayer. This is our end: to know God, to enjoy Him, and to be enjoyed by Him forever, for His glory and our delight. Find your purpose, and encounter the life you were made for.
